Netflix States They Are NOT Sponsor of Straight Pride Parade.

On August 31st, the 1st annual ‘Straight Pride Parade’ is happening in Boston. Yes, they did get a permit from the city. Mayor Marty Walsh tweeted on June 6, “The City of Boston cannot deny a permit based on an organization’s values.”

More shocking is the event shows Netflix is a premium sponsor of the event. Well, the streaming giant has threatened legal action against the organizers of Boston’s Straight Pride Parade. Netflix send a letter demanding that the group removed “our name and logo from all your materials within 24 hours.”

Netflix’s letter goes on to say, “You are using the Netflix logo to promote your event, which despite its name is about hate — not pride. That’s gross and deeply hurtful, but it’s also deceptive misinformation and infringes our legal rights,” the warning starts. “Netflix has nothing to do with your organization or event. Indeed, it’s telling that you feel the need to lie to gain legitimacy”

The organizers publicly responded to Netflix’s legal letter with the following statement:

“Sadly, we have learned that Netflix is a heterophobic company steeped in hatred and bigotry,” the response read. “They not only rejected our offer but threatened us with litigation if we did not stop using their name and logo, which is perfectly legal for editorial or informational purposes,” a note reads. “Obviously, Netflix has no qualms about using their position of power to threaten marginalized groups who are exercising their 1st amendment rights.”

Defiantly, the statement ends saying that “their hate will not stop us.”
